Stains & How to Treat Them

There are so many things that can stain or discolor your carpets, but did you know that if treated with the wrong products a stain can be set permanently?

Let’s talk about it! We will go over some common household stains and the best way to remove them.

#1 Coffee/Tea & Chocolate

  • When the spill happens grab something DRY and absorbent like a cloth or paper towel, and BLOT the area. DO NOT scrub. This will help soak up any excess liquid.
  • Mix up about ¼ teaspoon of dish soap in warm water. Spray it on a damp cloth and BLOT the area with the mixture and allow it to sit for roughly 10 minutes. Make sure the dish soap has no bleach or lightening agent in it.
  • Apply some white vinegar to the spot using a damp cloth, and BLOT the spot again.
  • Apply some water to the spot using a damp cloth or sponge.
  • Place a dry cloth on top and place a weight over to allow the cloth to absorb excess moisture.

#2 Ketchup & Mustard

  • When the spill happens, scrape up the excess spill off of the carpet.
  • Sprinkle some dry baking soda on the carpet over the spill, and let sit for a couple of minutes
  • Scrape the powder loose and then run a vacuum over the stain.
